Workshop Details
This four-day, 32-hour hands-on workshop combines classroom instruction, demonstrations, guided practice, experiential learning, and a supervised practicum. Participants will learn positioning, body mechanics, and therapeutic techniques designed to support clients throughout pregnancy, labor preparation, and the postpartum period.
- Licensed/registered massage therapists, student massage therapists who have completed 500+ hours of accredited school training, and other licensed maternity care professionals with a touch scope of practice.
- Certified Doulas
This is an experiential workshop with extensive hands-on practice. Participants should be prepared to both give and receive massage and participate in positioning, draping, technique practice, demonstrations, and other classroom activities throughout the four days.
The workshop includes a supervised one-hour practicum with a pregnant participant. Participants are encouraged to arrange their own practicum participant who is at least 14 weeks pregnant, under the care of a physician or midwife, and experiencing a healthy pregnancy without known complications or high-risk conditions.
If you are unable to arrange your own pregnant participant, Motherlove Massage will attempt to arrange a practicum participant on your behalf. If a pregnant participant is unavailable, the practicum may be completed with a classmate using an assigned prenatal scenario.
Participants will need a copy of Pre- & Perinatal Massage Therapy, 3rd Edition, along with four sets of linens (unless otherwise specified) and other supplies for hands-on practice. You will also need appropriate positioning equipment for massage, such as standard pillows, a body cushion, or a side-lying positioning system, as well as unscented massage oil or lotion and basic sanitation supplies.
Required materials and equipment are not included in workshop tuition unless otherwise specified. A detailed supply list and preparation instructions will be provided after enrollment.
Participants who attend all scheduled workshop hours and complete all required activities will receive 32 continuing education (CE) hours. CE documentation cannot be issued until all workshop requirements have been completed.
Completion of the workshop provides training in pre- and perinatal massage but does not result in certification. Eligible massage therapists who wish to earn the designation Certified Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapist must separately enroll in and successfully complete the Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapy Certification course.
